Students will be able to:
- Practice using decimals in real life situations through various activities.
- Understand that using decimals will be crucial throughout their lifetime. (Ex. Money, Shopping)
- Use decimals in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
- Use key words to help them understand what the mathematical problem is instructing them to do. (Example: difference, times, quotient, or product)
- Create foldables explaining how decimals are used in real life situations, give their definition, show a picture, and know how to write numbers in written form as well as expanded.
- Will be able to pass their final quiz with a 70% or better.
Standards:
- Perform operations with multi-digit whole numbers and with decimals to hundredths.
- Fluently multiply multi-digit whole numbers using the standard algorithm.
- Find whole-number quotients of whole numbers with up to four-digit dividends and two-digit divisors, using strategies based on place value, the properties of operations, and/or the relationship between multiplication and division. Illustrate and explain the calculation by using equations, rectangular arrays, and/or area models.
- Add, subtract, multiply, and divide decimals to hundredths, using concrete models or drawings and strategies based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction; relate the strategy to a written method and explain the reasoning used.
